Accidental Magic
Almost every time I start a collage, I don’t have a clear idea of what I want the final result to look like. I rarely set a standard—instead, I let myself go with the flow. The whole process is trial and error, and as I experiment with a certain color or shape, I also let digital editing tools surprise me, especially when it comes to cutting out objects. Sometimes I have a specific intention, but I accidentally press something else—and that’s exactly when the magic happens.
The other day, I was working on a collage for a bookmark. I had an illustration of some flowers and was planning to cut them out one by one to create a composition. But to my delight, I accidentally deleted just the flowers and was left with the background. That sparked an idea—I started picturing a scene in nature where foliage and sunlight create artworks through the shapes of shadows. I browsed through my files and found another image that had great potential to mimic that shadow effect—and when I zoomed in, I saw it: the figure of a hummingbird!
What we usually call a coincidence, I call it magic when it comes to the making of my collage artworks. Every single time, with every piece I’ve ever made, I find myself saying: “This was so meant to be—they were meant to find each other.” To my eyes, there’s an undeniable serendipity within each of my creations.

They say hummingbirds bring good luck—I like to think this little one was lucky enough to find her flower 🙂
