How I Discovered My Color Season
My favorite color has always been pink. For a while, it was green too, and when I became an adult, I developed a fascination with gray, silver, and especially lilac. Like many of us, I chose those colors for my clothes without knowing anything about personal color analysis.
Around the time I was working as a language editor and proofreader at a museum, I started watching videos on the subject. It felt almost magical to discover that some colors can actually light you up. I became so obsessed that some days it was all I could think about. I kept testing myself with photos, trying to figure out which season I belonged to. It took me a whole year to find the answer—and the reason it took so long was simple: I didn’t know anything about color. Seriously, that was one of the big revelations of the process. What came naturally to other people, I just couldn’t see it.
The designers I worked with at the museum sometimes helped me understand the nuances between tones, but even then, it was hard. I even had to watch painting tutorials to grasp what they were talking about. I’ve come to believe that learning to see color—really understand it—is something that takes constant practice.
At the beginning of my journey, I thought I was a Winter. But something about that didn’t feel quite right. Eventually, after all that studying, I discovered I’m a True Autumn and, honestly, I wasn’t thrilled at first. The whole beige-toned lifestyle didn’t exactly excite me. I had secretly hoped I’d be a Summer, because I love those gray-tinged colors you often see in vintage visuals. But over time, I started to love my season—and since I’d spent so much time studying the palettes of all the others, I grew attached to each one in its own way.
That’s how color revealed itself to me—and while I wouldn’t call myself an expert just yet, the whole journey truly changed the way I see the world.
